The Design approach was to create a minimalist indoor/outdoor structure that would block out the neighbor on the one side and offer an open yet protected outdoor living zone on the other side. As the property was very small (less than 1 acre) and we needed to keep a designated distance to the protected native plants (Joshua Trees), the challenge was to design a structure that is small enough to fit the local conditions and still offer everything that a vacation rental needs. This house shows what holistic design is about. We did the architectural design, interior design, exterior design, and landscape design, as well as the project management. Now this new built contemporary house close to the Joshua Tree National Park entrance provides everything that weary vacationers are looking for. The smart floorplan focuses on a bigger entertainment area with a modern kitchen, big dining table, cozy sofa/TV area and smaller bedrooms with picture windows and ensuite bathrooms. You can exit to the outdoors from both bedrooms. The entertainment area is opening to the big, covered patio, where guests can chill, eat, sit at the customized fire pit. There is also a wooden deck area with an in-built hot tub, which lets renters soak in the middle of native desert plants and underneath a glittering dome full of stars, planets, and passing meteors.
