High Desert Cabin
Project Year: 2020
Location: Pipes Canyon / Pioneertown
Scope of work: Interior design
A classic 480-squarefoot-cabin from 1959 was redesigned for the purpose of using it as a High Desert dwelling for a couple of months, before implementing it into another architectural concept. The cabin is situated on a 5-acre-lot in the middle of a dense Joshua Tree environment on Gamma Gulch Rd.
The existing furniture and some surfaces were removed. The concrete floor was lightly ground to achieve a salt and pepper finish and two walls were painted white. The original General Electric fridge and kitchen cabinet as well as the oven were reused, because they still worked well, and they perfectly matched the laid-back vibe of the house and the area. The rest of the interior is a mix of contemporary furniture, wall art by local artists, and some funky pieces left by the former owner. Pretty soon the cabin will be turned into a yoga studio as part of a new High Desert rental oasis. Stay tuned!
